This wine is so classic. Not only in context with Refugio Ranch, but also in the spectrum of great Syrah. I cannot help but draw parallels between this wine and wines of the Northern Rhone. It shows what a low alcohol red is capable of without sacrificing substance or presence.
“The 2019 Petite Sirah offers a beguiling mix of varietal richness and energy. Hard candy, lavender, menthol, spice and licorice wrap around a core of exotic, dark Petite fruit. A drop dead gorgeous wine, the Refugio Petite Sirah is one of the most distinctive Petites in California.” - Antonio Galloni
This is the first Escondrijo to use Grenache from Block 16 (the new planting in the river flats), as well as block 15 on the mountainside. The intention with this blend is for the additions of Syrah and Petite Sirah to support the Grenache, not over-shadow it. We want this wine to be all about Grenache.
This wine is lifted, bright and red. The palate attacks with tense red fruits, sweet berries, currant and a touch of charred herbs. The wine finishes fresh and dark with dusty tannins, allspice, and sanguine minerality.
